Heads Up (a salvaged letter): feel the love, get high + swing yo’ hips

[…as with many posts in salvaged letters, this originally appeared on a blog o’ my past.  Still relevant and filled with Cosmic Goodness, so it lives here now. ]

I was checking out one of my favorite blogs: Spiritual Cowgirl, and she had this brief post asking for people to listen to love songs (healthy ones, take note… not the “go suck on an egg” kind) and think of this as the Universe singing to you. And then in the comments a muse by the name of ‘robynne’ posted about the song by Matt Nathanson, Come On Get Higher.

Read the lyrics below while you listen to the music (really, or the impact just isn’t gonna happen), and envision the Great Creatrix is singing just for you, wooing you, seducing you to wake up and live with passion + joy.

Where in your life have you let go (badly), forgotten, shut yourself off, given up, walked away, unyeilded, refused to “drown in love“, refused to speak out… stopped dancing and strutting and pulling LIFE down hard into the sweet damp grass and kissing Her hard and full on the mouth until your lips tingle and your heart skips a beat and you can’t see for the stars in your eyes…She’s waiting for you. Wanting you. Needing you. Where have you gone?

Life — the vehicle of Cosmic Goodness! — is begging you to drown Her in your love. You feel that?

‘Cuz everything works in your arms. Ohhhh, yeahhhhh.

Come on Get Higher … Matt Nathanson

I miss the sound of your voice
And I miss the rush of your skin
And I miss the still of the silence
As you breathe out and I breathe in

If i could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
Make you believe
Make you forget

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love

I miss the sound of your voice
The loudest thing in my head
And I ache to remember
All the violent, sweet
Perfect words that you said

If I could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
I’d make you believe
I’d make you forget

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love

I miss the pull of your heart
I could taste the sparks on your tongue
I see angels and devils
And God, when you come on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on

Sing sha la la la
Sing sha la la la la

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me, drown me in love

It’s all wrong, it’s all wrong,
it’s so truly right
So come on, get higher
So come on and get higher
‘Cause everything works, love
Everything works in your arms
